Facebook and when did it start

Initially, in 2003, Mark began working with senior students on a dating site, and later he began his own project, which he completed in four months. The project was originally closed and was a social network for Harvard students.

In the first month of Facebook’s operation, 1,200 accounts were created, and a month later, half of Harvard students were already talking on it.

During the year, the network gained popularity in many Boston universities, then in American institutions. Already at the end of 2005, the number of active users amounted to more than six million people.

It was in 2005 that the social network switched to the domain that we use today – Facebook.com

In 2006, an adapted mobile version of the site appeared, and already in September of the same year, the social. the network became open to any user on the Internet. To register, it was enough to have an active email address.

The main element that is used in the social network is the user profile. It is there that all information, statuses and photos are placed. It can be hidden using the “Privacy Settings” function.

In 2009, Facebook introduced the “Like” button, which allowed you to rate a post, photo, note, or status. And already in 2010, this button could be integrated into websites.

In 2011, the user profile was changed. Now it looks like a chronicle, where statuses are formed into a news feed. It can be customized to your needs, hide uninteresting information and comment on interesting news.

A new design change came in early 2020. It has become more modern, stylish and comfortable.

In addition to the Facebook brand, the company also owns Instagram and WatsApp. Something like that. Now you know what the social network Facebook is and how it appeared on the Internet.

Differences between Facebook and other social networks

In fact, there are practically no special differences between the same VK, FB or OK. Well, it is understandable, because all these social networks were created primarily for communication between people from different cities and even countries. However, there are a few things that stand out:

  • The target audience of Facebook is adults, serious people over the age of 30.
  • Moreover, it is here that you can find accounts of celebrities and world-class businessmen;
  • Many users are business owners, and the social network is used to advertise and attract customers;
  • Based on the first two points, the third follows – the main content is focused on an adult, solvent audience.

In fact, this is everything that distinguishes FB from the background of others.

Features of the social network Facebook

So, it remains to answer the most pressing question that new users of the site ask, namely, what opportunities open up to users after creating a profile and how to use Facebook in general. Well, we will have access to:

  • editing your profile, including photos and personal information;
  • adding friends and acquaintances;
  • personal correspondence;
  • creation of broadcasts;
  • publishing news in the feed;
  • status change; ;
  • subscription to communities; ;
  • privacy settings;
  • fundraising;
  • job search;
  • making online purchases;
  • access to online games on the site;
  • voting on sites with authorization through FB;
  • making video and audio calls;
  • commenting on friends’ posts.

Facebook is a social network with huge opportunities, the number of which is constantly growing. The chance that in a year this list will not increase by five to ten points is very small.

How is Facebook different from other networks?

In the world of social networking, Facebook has been a monopoly for a very long time, which can explain its rapid growth in popularity. Even today in many countries of the world it has no competitors. Someone can cite MySpace as an example, but Facebook bypassed this network at the initial stage of its growth.

Over time, networks began to appear that were very similar to Facebook. If we talk about global analogues that would extend to all countries of the world, then this can only be Google Plus and Twitter. Some countries have their own national counterparts. Brazil has Orkut, Japan has Mixi, and so on.

Deactivation

To temporarily deactivate the page, you need to go to the settings (they are located at the top right and look like a triangle), go to the “Security” section and select the “Deactivate account” item.

When you click on the “Deactivate” link, you will need to briefly enter the reason for the deactivation, and to confirm this action, you will need a verification code and account password. This is done so that no one from outsiders can deactivate your account if you suddenly leave your laptop with an active profile.

After all these actions, an email will be sent to the mail with a link to activate the profile. You can use it when the account needs to be restored.

Deleting a profile

Deleting a profile is quite problematic. To do this, in the “Help” section (located in the privacy settings), you must enter the request “delete account”. The results will contain a link to the profile deletion page. Go to this page and click “Delete my page”.

Of course, for this you will need to confirm this action with a password and a verification code. But even after that, you can restore your page, however, only within 14 days. After two weeks, the account will be permanently deleted. Now you know how to delete your Facebook profile.

Access and password recovery

Often users forget the password to their Facebook page. There is nothing wrong with this, since access can be restored. To do this, on the start page, you need to click on “Forgot password”.

A window will open where you will need to enter your e-mail. A special code for account recovery will be sent to it. This password is entered in the window on the network website (where you previously requested recovery). Click “Continue” and go to the page for creating a new password.
